IBM TSM - How to recover when the picker in the library drops some tapes
Ensure the dropped tapes get placed back into the library.
Type q path and q drive and ensure any offline paths or drives are placed back online.
Run an audit of the library from the library GUI.
Run an audit from TSM by typing audit libr "lib_name" checkl=barcode first
If all the tapes are not seen by TSM then try running an audit without reading the barcode but by reading the label (header) on the actual magnetic media by typing audit libr "lib_name" (This takes longer to run).
If the tapes are not found by the audit process (maybe the tapes were put into the hopper) the audit process will delete them from the inventory and they will need to be checked back in.
Type q vol "vol_name" f=d for each tape to see if they are scratch or private.
For the scratch tapes type checkin libv "lib_name" search=bulk status=scratch checkl=barcode ("search=bulk" if the tapes are in the hopper).
For the private tapes type checkin libv "lib_name" search=bulk status=private checkl=barcode ("search=bulk" if the tapes are in the hopper).
Don't forget to type q req after running the checkin commands with "search=bulk".
If the tapes are not in the hopper replace "search=bulk" for "search=yes" in the above commands.
As always check the activity log to see if the missing tapes have been found.
Run audit libr "lib_name" checkl=barcode again if required.
Using q libv and q drm you should be able to see the missing tapes now.
